Training in Transport

We have joined up with a leading training company that specialises in Apprenticeships. Together we have developed a specific range of Transport related qualifications..

Apprentices are age 16 or over. A major point here is there is no age cap above 16 so Apprenticeships are eligible to all employees. This is a major difference to Apprenticeships of old when there was an age cap. The scheme combines working, along with studying to gain skills and knowledge in a specific job role.

Apprentices can also be new or existing employees, for example if the training enhances an employees’ existing job role; or is a new job role/employee. Apprenticeships must last for at least a year and they can last up to 5 years depending on the level of qualification the Apprentice is studying.
The Apprentice must:

  • Work with experienced staff to ensure transfer of learning
  • Learn job specific skills
  • Study during their working week, meaning that employers must ensure that the learner has 20% of their working week time allocated to off the job learning
(this 20% includes utilising existing day to day development processes such as one to ones with their manager, attending team meetings, briefings, training days).

The delivery of the programmes will be supported/enhanced by any training that is already planned and delivered within in the business as part of the annual company business training plan. This way the Apprenticeship programme is applied practically by utilising existing training programmes that business run, ensuring that all training supports individual learners by helping relieve pressure on time and release and reduce duplication of effort.
